With fewer than 20 days until our Paris debut, the Design Miami/ community is abuzz with anticipation. Our very own Chairman and Co-Founder, Craig Robins, CEO of DACRA and the Miami Design District, recently captured the magnitude of what we’re all feeling when he said:

“In what will be our 40th show, the debut of Design Miami/ Paris represents a significant milestone. Since the inception of the fair in 2005, esteemed galleries like kreo, Laffanour, and Patrick Seguin have played a pivotal role in shaping our program. Bringing the global platform that we've cultivated in Miami to a city with such a rich, centuries-long history of nurturing and celebrating design is both a privilege and a responsibility.”

We can’t wait to bring Design Miami/ Paris to life! In the meantime, to help you plan your trip, we’ve collated a 14-stop itinerary of can’t-miss shows on view in Paris next month—including the brick-and-mortar spaces of many of the Parisian galleries that will be exhibiting inside the fair.

Among the most visited institutions in France, the Centre Pompidou offers a world-class collection of modern art and a preeminent exhibition program, all housed within an unforgettable architectural setting. You can never go wrong with a visit to Centre Pompidou. Two highlights you’ll find there next month are Over the Rainbow and Chagall at Work: Drawings, Ceramics and Sculptures 1945-1970. On view through November 13th, the former features 500+ artworks and documents drawn mainly from the museum’s collection that demonstrate how artists since the last century have helped transform the representation of LGBTQIA+ communities and the recognition of LGBTQIA+ rights. Chagall at Work, meanwhile, on view through February 26th of next year, presents 127 drawings, five ceramics, and seven sculptures created by Chagall in the post-World War II era, toward the end of the artist’s long and prolific career. These works all entered the Pompidou collection in 2022, thanks to the generosity of Bella and Meret Meyer. Both shows offer a feast for the eyes while foregrounding unique and influential perspectives on the world.

Earlier this month, Galerie BSL opened Dynamic Landscape(s), a robust solo show of new and recent works from French painter, sculptor, designer, and maker François Mascarello—including a sculpturally tectonic set of settees and monumental desk-bookcase crafted in a stark white mineral composite; lighting in stucco, ceramic, and bronze; tables in lacquer and straw marquetry; handmade wallpaper and silk tapestry paintings. As an ensemble, Mascarello’s idiosyncratic micro-architectures form an au courant and, as the title suggests, dynamic gesamtkunstwerk. The show runs through December 23rd.

At Galerie kreo, you’ll find Echosystems, a group exhibition curated around the one-of-a-kind vision of late, great design multitalent Virgil Abloh. Alongside the last works that Abloh created for the gallery before his much-too-soon passing in 2021, you’ll find an array of two and three dimensional works from an eclectic mix of artists and designers, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Erwan Bouroullec, Marcel Duchamp, Konstantin Grcic, Keith Haring, and Gordon Matta-Clark, among others. The grouping calls to mind the role that sampling played in Abloh’s oeuvre. As he explained in a 2020 interview for Flash Art, “It was during my early days in architecture school that I was told that an architect should be a jack-of-all-trades. That was all I needed to hear. From that point on, I realized that I did not need to abandon my love for Wu Tang, Green Day, Alien Workshop, and Mies van der Rohe, but could apply them all together.” Echosystems is on view until November 1st.
