About Moderne Gallery
Expertise/ Twentieth-century decorative arts with a focus on the American studio craft movement
Established in 1984, Moderne Gallery has always been on the leading edge of discoveries and trends in the market for the finest works from the Studio Movement. Forward thinking, innovation, education, and an eye for fine work have built the gallery’s reputation as a pioneer in the world of art and design. In 1985, one year after opening, Moderne Gallery was the first gallery to present George Nakashima’s work on the secondary market and largely contributed to building global recognition for his craft and spirit. Over the years, the gallery has passionately represented Nakashima’s continued legacy working closely with and exhibiting the work of Mira Nakashima, supporting academic research, archival projects, and ongoing collaborations and partnerships. Today, the gallery houses the largest and finest collection of George Nakashima’s 1940s -1980s designs and is known as the premiere gallery for Nakashima’s work. Additionally, Moderne Gallery is renowned as the primary gallery specializing in Studio Craft. Also, the gallery is known internationally for the showcase of important historic and contemporary studio ceramics, turned wood, and metalwork. Over our four decade plus history, Moderne Gallery has ceaselessly championed artistry and craftsmanship while supporting and interacting with a local and international community of artists, designers, collectors, and beyond.
