This year Objective Gallery presents ‘all design is contemporary, if it’s alive’ with the work of nine designers, each selected for their distinct contribution to art furniture's new wave Its title, words borrowed (and tweaked) from artist David Hockney, winks and nods at the contemplations of our day, of man, machine, and what role either will play in future creativity and production. Each work provides the eye with a delightful disruption, courtesy of the human hands that made them. They are ‘alive’ in method, spirit and construction- hammered copper and chiseled wood; spider legged lamps and flowerhead lampshades. And as Hockney phrased it: “If it’s not alive, what’s the point of it?”

Founded in 2020, opening first in a historic building in Shanghai, the gallery now includes a second location in West SoHo, New York. Objective Gallery (est. 2020) specializes in collectible design, showcasing distinct works with a conceptual, narrative-driven approach. A place where emerging and established artists, designers, and craftspeople alike give tangibility to their ideas and form a nuanced program that moves the bounds of creativity, craft, and innovation. Based in Shanghai and New York, functional artworks are developed bespoke and sourced worldwide, offering clients distinct works of uncompromising construction. Art, design, and utility converge, allowing clients to tell spatial stories with objects of unique resonance.
