Fornasetti presents: Engraving reflections

For Design Miami.Paris 2024, Fornasetti presents a selection of creations that revisit the Milanese atelier's origins and artistic values.

The Atelier's exploration delved into Piero Fornasetti’ s love of glass engraving and the decorative arts culminating in the creation of his iconic piece of furniture, the "Architettura" trumeau. Fornasetti will unveil two limited edition trumeau. The first is a one-off piece made of mirrored glass, meticulously hand-engraved with the "Riflesso di Architettura" trumeau, created in collaboration with Barbini, keeper of the prestigious Murano brand Barbini Specchi Veneziani. It is a piece that is both functional and highly artistic. The second piece of furniture is the "Architettura Archetipo" trumeau inspired by the "Libri" trumeau prototype of the 1950s, in a limited edition of 5. The main feature of this bar cabinet is the harmony between the decoration and the parts made of Italian walnut root. Completing the set are two important vases from the Fornasetti archive, originally from the 1940s-1950s and reissued by S.A.L.I.R. (Murano) in the 2000s: one features an intricate pattern of shells engraved on blue glass, while the other is decorated with enamel depictions of hands and butterflies on glass. Fornasetti is an Atelier internationally recognised for the design and decoration of timeless pieces of furniture and accessories. It was founded in Milan in the 1940s by Piero Fornasetti, a versatile and eclectic artist distinguished by an unstoppable creative flair that made him one of the most prolific figures of twentieth century Italy. Barnaba Fornasetti, Artistic Director and guardian of his father Piero’s legacy, leads the brand with courageous and unconventional choices that have guided it to the international renown and vitality it enjoys today. Now as always, the Fornasetti dream remains unchanged: to endow everyday objects with a cultural value and, through their decoration, an artistic message. Over the course of its history, Fornasetti has created a visual language, unique in its refined artistic lines, characterized by humor, nostalgia, metaphor and allusions, capable of turning furniture, accessories and porcelain into genuine ‘conversation pieces’. Everything is still made strictly by hand in the Milanese Atelier, in limited annual editions. The various phases of the production cycle result in each item being unique, making every Fornasetti object an authentic art multiple.

Now as always, the Fornasetti dream remains unchanged: to endow everyday objects with a cultural value and, through their decoration, an artistic message.
