The 'Huixcolotla' collection by Ad Hoc is a series inspired by the traditional patterns of “papel picado” (perforated paper), a centenary handcrafted decoration widely used in Mexican celebrations. Together with the master artisan Sergio Hernández from the town of Metepec, Ad Hoc introduced leather to his practice challenging the ephemeral nature of paper and accentuating the craftsman’s ability. Inspired by the delicacy of the material and the characteristic elaborate patterns of this handcraft, they developed a collaborative series that combines the aesthetics, materials, and functionality of contemporary design with the mastery and richness of Mexican artisanal artistry.
