Jean and Oliver Pelle

Designer

PELLE was founded in 2011 by partners Jean and Oliver Pelle. Their studio practice integrates artistic exploration with architectural integrity to offer an original collection of hand produced, professionally refined pieces. Driven by an exploration of new ideas, PELLE’s collections of lighting, furniture, and objects are continually expanding into different materials and areas of design. Located in Brooklyn’s Red Hook neighborhood, the PELLE studio currently comprises a lighting fabrication studio, a research and prototyping studio, and a dedicated gallery to display finished pieces. The intimate studio space is structured to support creative experimentation and active making, continually evolving in pursuit of new materials, methods, and ideas. Led by Jean and Oliver, the small studio team handcrafts each piece to order. Jean and Oliver met while pursuing their Masters in Architecture at Yale University. PELLE has received numerous design awards and distinctions over the years. These include ‘Best Lighting’ at The International Contemporary Furniture Fair – ICFF in 2018 in addition to being named ‘Best Young Americans’ by Wallpaper*. The studio has exhibited as part of Collective Design Fair 2017, Salone del Mobile 2017, Tent London/Super Brands 2015, Wallpaper* Handmade 2016, and New York’s Museum of Modern Art – MoMA in 2011. PELLE has been extensively recognized in the press. The studio’s work has been published in The New York Times, Elle Décor, Architectural Digest, The World of Interiors and Vogue, among international publications such as Elle Decoration France, Casa Vogue Brazil, DAMN, FRAME, Vogue China, Zeit Magazin, Harper’s Bazaar Japan, AD Germany, AD Middle East, AD Spain, and AD India.

Stereom 01 is a sculptural table lamp that draws from projective geometry and observation. Based on transitory moments such as when a shadow of a signage post folds across the street pavement, or when darkened silhouettes of buildings merge into a single form against the setting sun. The Stereom works are snapshots where form does not reveal itself immediately.
