Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council
Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council x Ricardo Rendorn
By blending the aesthetics of Mexico’s vivid landscapes with the vibrant traditions of the United Arab Emirates, Irthi Contemporary Crafts Council and Ricardo Rendón introduce a collection that offers a new perspective on cultural artistry. This collaboration initiates dialogue between robust Mexican artistic expressions and the intricate Emirati crafts of Talli and Safafah. While the collection draws inspiration from two distinct geographical areas, their union results in a creation with a fresh identity. Rendón's Mexican influence, represented by the use of pinewood in dark ink and volcano rock, is accentuated by vibrant belts of Talli and Safeefah, weaving tales of starlit oases, sandy deserts and timeless Emirati traditions. The former shows the ruggedness and strength of pinewood, while the other, traditionally handwoven by Emirati artisans, brings in softness and colour. These intertwined narratives culminated in a transformative exchange and a collection that reimagines traditional items, serving as a testament to the shared journey and expertise of craftswomen from diverse backgrounds. It’s a contemporary reflection of long-standing traditions, ideal for anyone who appreciates art with story and depth.
