The secret sauce of Design Miami is the amazing community that comes together at the fair in celebration of design culture and commerce. From gallerists, industry leaders, and collectors, to curators, tastemakers, and enthusiasts, our community injects each Design Miami event with a vibrant energy fueled by the future-facing potential of design production — an outlook that this year’s Curatorial Director, Glenn Adamson, underscored with his theme “Blue Sky.”

Taking a “blue sky thinking” approach, the theme reflected on design as a fundamentally optimistic human activity, one that gives way to radical invention through conceptual and material innovation. “Design is inherently a speculative venture and also a collective one,” Adamson explains. “Design is a shared frame of reference at a time of global interconnection. The same sky is above us all.”

As always, the fair’s Vetting Committee selected the winners of our Best of Show Awards. Friedman Benda (NYC/LA) received the Best Gallery Award, while Blunk Space (Point Reyes Station) took Best Curio. The award for Best Historic Work went to an exquisite dining table (c. 1970) by Brazilian architect José Zanine Caldas, presented by R & Company (NYC); and Best Contemporary Work was given to the multidimensional light sculptures (2024) of Maine-based designer Christopher Baker, represented by Dobrinka Salzman (NYC).

This year also saw the introduction of a new Best of Show Award: Best Thematic Expression. This recognition went to Mindy Solomon Gallery (Miami) for a presentation that deeply resonated with the Blue Sky theme through a striking exploration of color, form, and materiality.
