Design Miami 2024

Curatorial Director

Glenn Adamson

Join us for a welcome dose of optimism: this December in Miami, things will be looking up.

Blue Sky This year, Design Miami is thinking big. Under Glenn Adamson’s curatorial theme, Blue Sky, the fair will offer a celebration of the boldest leaps of imagination in design. Through a program of collectible design galleries, curios, special projects and collaborations, design is explored as an experimental, risk-taking, and ultimately optimistic venture. Spotlighting some of the greatest moments of innovation from across time and cultures, Design Miami 2024 presents the story of design—past, present, and future—all created under one, shared sky.

Friedman Benda presents an exhibition that spans across geography, disciplines, and generations, featuring pieces by Estúdio Campana (Brazil), Rashid Johnson (USA), Ettore Sottsass (Italy), Barbora Žilinksait (Belgium), Raphael Navot (Israel / France), and Javier Senosiain (Mexico).

Best Curio Presentation

Blunk Space

Blunk Space's presentation connects living artists Adam Pogue, Alana Burns, and Tio Kobayashi with Northern California pioneer JB Blunk (1926-2002), all united by their use of salvaged materials.

Best Historic Piece

Jose Zanine Caldas Dining table, Salvaged Wood from 1970's from R & Company

Commissioned for the Itaipava residence in Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro (c. 1970), José Zanine Caldas' dining table is a superb reflection of his signature organic style and passion for the preservation of solid wood. Chiseled from salvaged material, the table remained in the Itaipava family until 2024, when it was acquired directly from the estate by R & Company.

Best Contemporary Piece

Christopher Baker's Light Sculpture, 2024 from Dobrinka Salzman

This award-winning light sculpture blends influences from artists like Fausto Melotti and Isamu Noguchi with traditional Japanese Shou-sugi-ban burnt wood, using rare pineapple-silk fabric, natural plant dyes, and antique Japanese textiles to create uniquely diffused, artful lighting.

Best Thematic Expression

Mindy Solomon Gallery

For the 20th edition of Design Miami, this new award was given to Mindy Solomon Gallery for their presentation of works inspired by the cool, blue gray and earthy terrain of Patagonia.
