Leather Panel

$225,000.00

Exhibited at Design Miami/ 2021 Brown leather panels with embossed and tooled designs by C R Ashbee and made by the Guild of Handicraft. The frieze originally consisted of 18 panels made for the sitting room of Bryngwyn, the Herefordshire house of James Rankin MP. The pink and the 'Craft of the Guild', a galleon under sail, were favorite emblems of the Guild of Handicraft. The pink represented the Guild and was derived from a surprise blooming of pinks outside Essex House, London in the Guild's first year there. The 'Craft of the Guild' represents the uncertainties of life's journey and the stylized pomegranate (seen here) represented wealth and success. Ten of these panels are in the permanent collection the Wilson - Cheltenham Museum and Art Gallery.
