Rino Claessens
Designer
Rino Claessens (1994) is a designer based in Eindhoven who recently graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven. Ceramics is his favourite material and he is fascinated by its tactile qualities and diverse possibilities. A trip to Arita, Japan, (known as the cradle of porcelain firing), became an eye-opener for the artist who opened up his way of modelling and creating ceramics. He is interested in its rich history, but seeks to show it in a contemporary way. An experimental and process-based approach leads him to create unconventional objects. With MODULAR ELEMENTS, he creates five different modules that can be linked together. With this modular system, the artist gives himself (and others) the freedom to make a wide variety of objects and furniture for which the ceramic kiln is no longer a size limit. They are solidly connected, but it is also possible to dismantle the modules and rebuild them into new objects. The stoneware modules are brushed and sponged to give them a rich texture and mixed colour.
