Exhibited at DESIGN MIAMI.PARIS 2023 This series of sculptures in ceramics draws its inspiration from the intersection of two universes that may seem far apart, but which are united by a passion for the history of techniques: industrial materials, and ancient and pre-Columbian architecture. In both cases, the aim is to shape, lift and hold in place materials on which physical forces will be applied. The properties of the material used (wooden beams, steel tubes, stone blocks, etc.) and the forces at play will define the possibilities in terms of component shapes or lengths, and will lead to the appearance of supporting elements such as pillars and columns, querres, buttresses, braces, pilasters... The industrial object, with its standardized, machine-produced components and high-precision applications, is perfect. On the other hand, stone architecture shows the work of the hand: while the lines are generally impeccable on the scale of the building, when you get closer, the stones are less precise in size, and the assemblies are ungainly. Cédolin is moved by these faults because they mark the end of an attempt at perfection.
