Exhibited at DESIGN MIAMI. 2023 Inspired by his father, Mauro Mori’s Portraits Collection is inspired by his father’s face. The series consists of unique sculptural tables and daybeds, hand-carved by the artist in Albizia Rosa wood in his Seychelles studio. 'Portraits' also includes three limited-edition stone tables — smaller iterations of the original, wood consoles, sculpted by the artist in limestone in his Milan studio. Each piece, whether carved in stone or wood, is an abstract interpretation of part of his father's face, all coming together as a portrait. The works embody his continuous investigation of organic and sensuous forms carved in natural material using the traditional sculpture techniques of subtraction. “My work is deeply informed by my longstanding interest in the symbols omnipresent throughout civilizations and historical periods, up until today.
