Exhibited at DESIGN MIAMI. 2023 Designed by Paris based Belgian-Born designer Pieter Maes, the Meriddienne sofa draws inspiration from a reclining figure, with organic folds and curves that resemble a human body. Part of editions of Courbet, the limited edition sensuous chaise was crafted in collaboration with the master artisans of Phelippeu Tappisier. Founded in 1953, the Paris-based tappissier combines their ancestral traditions with contemporary creativity. Hailing from a long lineage of weavers, couturiers and upholsterers, the skilled Phelippeu revitalizes ancient techniques, creating unique, contemporary pieces and hand-sewn textiles in collaboration with designers from across the globe. The Meridienne series is part of Editions Courbet- a program through which the gallery invites international artists and designers to visit and collaborate with the master craftsmen and ateliers it represents. Each collaboration follows a common thread and intention to highlight the inspiring work ethos and craftsmanship mastery behind every piece. Materials: Hand-crafted wood structure, upholstered by Phelippeau Tapissier using Pierre Louison Bouclé Wool.
